_______________________________Stand up paddle surfing (SUP), or in the Hawaiian language "Hoe he'e nalu", has been proclaimed as the fastest growing water sport in the world.
Surfing Instructors would stand on a board to give them a higher viewpoint, increasing visibility of what was going on around them (For example larger waves, swells, or additional sets). Originally, this began using a one-bladed paddle, while standing on a normal length surfboard. Eventually, the sport would evolve to use boards that are generally longer than 9 feet (3 m), and up to 12 feet (4 m) or more in length, with features such as concave hulls and padded decks; and typically have one or three fins as you see on surfboards that are located on the stern for tracking. These boards opened the sport to all ages, as they are far easier to balance yourself making it an enjoyable way to travel on lakes, rivers, canals, and our beautiful oceans right here in Fort Lauderdale. It provides an experience unlike any other being able to see the coral, plant, and marine life all the way to the ocean floor with our crystal clear waters. In the early 1960s, the Beach Boys of Waikiki (where the sport originated), would stand on their longboards, and paddle out with outrigger paddles to take pictures of the tourists learning to surf. While the sport has been in existence on the mainland for several years, it has not raised in popularity until now making this the perfect time for anyone to start learning!
Whether you are a first-timer or experienced, Paddle Boarding is a fun and easy way to play or exercise on the water. Advanced SUP users can gain a strong 'core' workout. SUP is a fun way to travel "The Venice of America"; while paddling you will see why Fort Lauderdale is the Yachting Capital of the World, plus get the closest view of past and present Celebrity Waterfront Homes like Scottie Pippen, Sonny, and Cher, Tarzan, Lee Majors, or Michael Mann's home featured in the last 5 episodes of Miami Vice. See magnificent views of Las Olas or travel past Port everglades which are home to the new Allure of the Seas which joins sister-ship Oasis of the Seas, the world's largest and most revolutionary cruise ships. Another exciting board ride is to a popular reef located approximately 100 yards off the coastline which has made it the 2nd most visited reef in the world (#1 being the Great Barrier Reef in Australia) and a great place to snorkel or dive. Experienced Surfers enjoy Stand Up Paddle Boards because they can often ride longer or catch more sets of waves. Playing in the Ocean, touring the river, or just taking it easy on our lakes; there is no wonder why SUP has become the hottest sport in the world and we look forward to putting you on a Sunrise Paddle Board.
