Tribe Watersports in Watamu are Kenya’s leading and most experienced kitesurfing and SUP providers. We are based adjacent to Watamu kite beach at Plot 28 and have a range of facilities to cater for all your needs. Tribe is owned and managed by Ben Kelliher who was raised in Watamu and has been teaching watersports for over 12 years. Having grown up enjoying watersports in Watamu, when kitesurfing came along in 2000 Ben was one of the first people to take up the sport and it has gone on to shape the rest of his life. As well as graduating from university with a degree in Watersports Technology, from the ages of 18 to 28 Ben has spent his time travelling the world working in a range of environments and developing his training skills in a variety of watersports.
Specialising in kitesurfing, Ben is currently one of the most qualified instructors in the world. Over the last five years Ben has spent his time designing the worlds finest watersports facility and is now proud to run Tribe Watersports in his childhood home Watamu. Together with his partner Ellie they have used their experience from travelling the world and seeing what works best to provide a safe and fun learning environment at Tribe Watersports for you all to enjoy.
Tribe Watersports specialises in kitesurfing and stand up paddle boarding, however snorkelling, scuba diving and deep sea fishing can also be arranged meaning Tribe Watersports is your number one stop for any water based activity. The team of staff have all been trained to the level of excellence that is required to work as a Tribe Watersports instructor. All staff hold internationally recognised qualifications from governing bodies such as the BKSA, IKO, RYA, BWSF and AWA. Tribe Watersports is also responsible for creating the Watamu Kitesurf Club which aims to promote and assist safe kitesurfing in Watamu.
Stand up paddle boarding in Watamu, Kenya is fantastic due to the natural conditions of the area. These include large sand bars perfect for learning or for flat water freestyle and a reef that spans the length of the bay which creates epic surf for wave riding. Stand up paddle boarding in Watamu therefore allows for beginner progress as well as advanced wave riding. SUP in Watamu is also benefited by the large sheltered inland Mida creek which is great for excursions through the mangrove forest.
Our SUP school includes a range of gear to cater for everyone with boards for adults to small children and adjustable paddles to fit different heights. It is paramount that the equipment is right first to ensure you get the most out of your experience.
Our SUP Surfaris last for a few hours but if you have a special request for a day out then this can be arranged.
