Top 6 Tours for Fall and Summer Paddling

In Destinations by Daniel

Whether you're in the northern hemisphere...

Or the southern...

SUP season is still going strong!

Sure, the temperatures might be changing...

And the landscape...

What you're wearing...

And the best time of the day might be different...

Also, maybe the weather is too...

Well, you get the point.

But wherever you might be on this beautiful planet we call home, SUP season is still on.

And to convince you it is,

We want to highlight three of the best SUP tours in the north to capture the beauty that Autumn brings to any paddling session...

And three of the best in the south/tropics where spring has sprung and summer is right around the corner.

Hopefully, this will motivate you (and convince you) that paddling is actually not a seasonal activity...

Instead, it can be done year-round!

First, let's start in the north...

1. Mountain Surf Paddlesports - Summersville Lake (West Virginia)

Located in the mountains of West Virginia, the team at MSPS is ready to get you on the water surrounding by towering cliffs and sweeping colorful trees landscapes.

Tours are guided by their staff and take place on Summersville Lake. They write on their site, "Summersville Lake, famous for it's crystal clear water and towering cliffs is a wonderful place to explore via SUP. Rock jumps (under 6tf by USACE law), a trickling waterfall, and golden nutall sandstone cliffs to scramble up from the water make this sport a natural playground for the whole family."

2. Norm Hann Expeditions - Discovery Islands (Canada)

If there is one place to experience SUP during the fall it would have to be up north in Canada. There, with a slight chill in the air, and the fall colors in full bloom, paddling along the coastline can only be described as magic. And the best company to discover all there is to see? Norm Hann Expeditions.

While they offer a multiple experiences, we highly recommend their Discovery Islands tour. They write on their website, "Our Discovery Islands Ocean Camp offers a relaxing four or five days of sup touring in and around the magnificent Surge Narrows Marine Park. The waters around Quadra Island offer an incredible place for connection, cultural history and exploration. Included in National Geographic Canada’s 50 Places of a Lifetime, the Discovery Islands are a standup paddle boarders paradise and considered to be one of the West Coast’s best-kept secrets. The Islands host abundant wildlife and are home to sea lions, seals, pacific white-sided dolphins, otters, colorful birds, and some of the largest starfish and clams in the world. Playful seals and seal pups often approach the boards. Even transient Orcas and Humpback Whales have at times been spotted during this trip."

Magic. Right?

3. 5280 Paddlesports - River SUP (Colorado)

Are you tired of flatwater paddling? Want to inject some adrenaline into your life? Then combine a cool fall paddle with an exciting river outing with 5280 Paddlesports!

They explain on their site, "Class I-II rapids that may seem like nothing in a raft or kayak are a lot more challenging when standing on a paddleboard. Plan on a fun-filled day learning river dynamics, how to get in and out of eddies, ferrying across the river, and river surfing!"

Take on fall paddling with a brand-new challenge and keep the adrenaline pumping all winter long!

Of course, if you are not located near these outfitters you can always do a quick search on our guide to locate a team of professionals near you who are ready and willing to get you on the water!

But now that we've covered the north, it's time to get to the south and their nice, warm weather...

1. SUP Bro Tours - Tutukaka Coast Tours (New Zealand)

Ahh the warm coasts of New Zealand. The entire Tutukaka Coast has been rated in the top three most beautiful coastlines in the world and there is so much to see and experience. The team at SUP Bro Tours is ready and willing to get you out there.

But instead of writing more about what you'll experience...

It might be better to let you see...

2. SUP CBR - Sunrise With Hot Air Balloons? (Australia)

This is your chance to experience the magic of a sunrise paddle and combine it with the Balloon Spectacular in Canberra on Lake Burley Griffin.

Imagine seeing the sunrise on the water, and along with it, hundreds of hot air balloons floating into the sky.

The one catch - this spectacular event only takes place in March so keep your eye on the schedule and book in advance. This one is not to be missed.

3. Vive SUP - Patagonia SUP Trip (Argentina)

This is an 8-day paddling trip starting in the Chilean Andes and ending in ViveSUP's hometown of Puerto Varas, Chile, paddling on the lakes and rivers of the Puelo Valley.

You begin high in the Andes mountains and make your way to the Chilean Ocean. On the way, you will camp as well as stay in hostels and lodges, are transported through pieces of Andean forest by your own personal transport, and have the opportunity to experience the rustic wilderness and wildlife of this pristine region.

Take time this fall or winter to discover another part of the world with Vive SUP!

And remember to stay stoked!
